of Poverty.” Adding critical humor, a counter-banner hanging from a gentrified condominium next to the tent village said “Build Resumes Not Tents.” A “Share the Gold” action took place in the late afternoon during the Games in what was billed as a “Half Hour of Solidarity” in which people were to stand three meters apart on Hastings Street for three blocks. Participants wore yellow and claimed that just as the Olympics had shown what the city could do in mobilizing resources, so homelessness should be addressed in the same way by “sharing the gold” and “connecting the worlds in our own city.” In any case, opposition to the Olympics also had public visibility, and those who wanted to use the Olympics to advocate for those with housing needs succeeded in doing so in the public realm as well.
